A Confounding Gift

My wife watches the show, The Voice. I have watched it with her at times and been drawn into the banter between the Judges and sometimes by the talent of the participants.

This past season the talent level seemed to be greater than in earlier shows.

The winner this year was a young man who seemed to have no “roof in his mouth” or limit to his range.

Personally I was pulling for the blonde girl who finished second.

I noticed that after most of the winners’
performances, which all seemed to be jaw-dropping, one or two judges would comment that the show needed someone like him.

They would sometimes not be able to describe how much they were affected by his performance.

In their awe they were confounded that he had the range which he displayed.

And, all he did was sing.

He did not dance around.
He did not get very expressive with his
face.

Even when praise was being heaped upon him by the Judges he smiled almost a sly smile.

Like he knew something.

Not sly …but maybe more humble
and with an assurance beyond what the other participants revealed.

He watched as his own Coach could not put a finger on a perfect explanation of his Gift.

One Judge spoke and, I believe, said…
My God has signed His Name to your voice.”

That’s powerful.

The young mans’ appearance was probably not what attracted the masses to vote for him.

It was not what made them all turn their chairs initially.

It was not what continually amazed them.

His looks did not win the contest.

The contest was won by the Gift he received….
and by his full exercise of It.

Personally,
I agree with the Judge who said…
“My God signed His Name to your voice.”

And that’s how it is when we….
no matter our appearance….

no matter our position….

when we allow The Gift
placed within us to be fully seen and fully exercised ….

It brings glory to God
It brings revelation of Him to those viewing or hearing it
and it can amaze those being touched by it.

Gifts exercised properly reveal the Giftor.

Gifts revealed fully uncover
more than the one possessing the Gift.

Are your Gifts being revealed in the humble,
non-attention gathering way the young man who won, revealed his Gift?

Some seek credit for their Gift.

It’s probably natural to do that.

But Gifts from above….
like the Gift of a seemingly unlimited singing Voice…
Gifts that confound and leave otherwise very expressive people speechless… are supernatural.

These Gifts come down
like “every good and perfect Gift, from the
Father of Lights with Whom there is no shadow of turning.”

Know that you possess a “good and perfect Gift”.

Seek it.
Look within and seek It.

Ask for It to be revealed.

And then….
allow It to bring confounding revelation to those who receive It.

It can confound them into a search of their own to find the One who gives the Gifts.

They, then, will receive the very best and perfect Gift.
